Latest: Moved around the corner May 2002. New shop at Houtplein.
The biggest and, probably, best known coffeeshop in Haarlem. The Statue of Liberty outside hints at the idealism of the guy behind it. Inside there is plenty of room for the 2 pool and 1 football tables. Strings of lights adorn the ceiling, there is a tiger and, er, loads of carrots. Plenty of choice on the menu and nice prices.
There are three Willie Wortel shops in Haarlem. Check out
Frans Hals, it's right by the railway station. They are also involved with the pioneering coffeeshop project at Stockport and Bournemouth in the UK. See their website above for details of their Cannabizness Workshop courses for British coffeeshop entrepreneurs.
![]() Owned by a prominent Dutch activist, and influencing the nascent British coffeeshops - Will they survive? - I found this establishment, with its D.I.Y. type decor and communal feel, most relaxing. Ajax were playing Arnhem on the big screen, and the friendly rivalry between two sets of Dutch fans in the shop, humorously expressed in English, added that little bit extra fun. I'm glad I called.
